Signature Member Pastel Society of America,

“Painting helps me slow down and observe the world around me. I have become more aware of shapes, colors, and textures because I have observed them as an artist. I watched a flower opening and experienced the joy of the moment because I painted it as it opened. To study my subjects, I paint outdoors in hand-bound watercolor sketchbooks and then use these sketches along with photographs as references for larger pastel or watercolor paintings. I prefer the dramatic lighting found at dawn, sunset or in unusual weather conditions, which brings out the extraordinary beauty of ordinary objects. Man-made forms with peeling paint, rust, intriguing textures, and strong patterns of light and shadow capture my eye."
